Colombia’s Araucana Lodge
Colombia is the birdiest country on earth, with more than 1,950 species recorded to date. A look at the wide variety of habitats here makes it easy to understand why. Colombia is tropical, yet it also has ample elevation change due to the Andes, along with both Pacific and Caribbean coastlines. There are many great locations to visit for birds here – and for this relaxed tour we have selected one of the best, the recently opened Araucana Lodge.
Nestled in a bamboo and palm grove on a “finca” in the Western Andes at 5,250 feet above sea level, the Araucana Lodge was designed specifically for birders and nature lovers, with spacious rooms and all the comforts to ensure a good night’s rest. For those who enjoy bird photography, the Araucana Lodge and many of the reserves we will visit have excellent feeder set ups that provide some of the best photographic opportunities in Colombia.
