Veracruz Raptors

Near endless opportunities to learn spring raptors and to see a lot of other great birds!

Every fall starting in early October hundreds of thousands of Raptors make the southerly migration from North America down the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Although are a number of places to witness portions of this spectacular, the northern coast of the Mexican state of Veracruz is one of the best. Indeed the Hotel we stay in Cardel is home to the most famous of the hawk watch locations.

This trip starts out in the famous port city of Veracruz in state of the same name. Old downtown Veracruz is in process of a great revitalization which is showing of the gratitude architectural history of the city.

We will spend some time visiting a couple of different hawk watching locations to see the incredible migration that can at times have hundreds of thousands of birds flying by in a single day.

But this tour is about a lot more than just raptors! We will spend time visiting high desert habitats of the central plateau of Mexico to the cloud forest near Xalapa and the tropical forests of Las Tuxtlas to the second largest lake in Mexico, Las Catemaco. This tour starts and ends in Veracruz City.
