Uganda
Birding, Primates and Safari in the "Pearl of Africa"
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa whose diverse landscape encompasses the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and the immense Lake Victoria. The whole country lies within the Nile Basin. Its abundant wildlife and great variety of habitats are well protected thanks the the existence of ten national park throughout the country. Wildlife includes chimpanzees, elephants, giraffes, hippopotamus, lions and hundreds of birds.
We are running a slightly shorter tour than we have in the past, but we are still including entry fees for both the Gorilla and Chimpanzee tracking that most tour companies only offer as a side excursion and are not included in their prices, a significant fee. We love Uganda and are excited to back and see our friends there in 2026. The new and full itinerary can be seen by clicking the button to the right, there is also a link to a map of the tour route.
We will be in the good hands of our local tour operator, William who is an experienced birding guide with knowledge of all other wildlife and cultural aspects of Uganda. The trip starts in central Uganda in the capital of Entebbe and heads down to Lake Mburo, one of the best savannah parks for birding in Uganda as it attracts species from Northern Tanzania. From here, we visit Africa’s number one birding site according to African Birding Club, the amazing Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which is also home to the gorillas. We then explore both sections of Queen Elizabeth National Park, with the biggest birding checklist ever recorded in any game reserve. Finally On to Kibale National Forest, the best site for the elusive Green Breasted Pitta and chimpanzees.
